“Just a few hours before a major Harley Davidson festival show, our drummer was suddenly grounded by flight cancellations. With a rowdy crowd expecting a full-throttle rock set, playing acoustic wasn’t an option. The promoter told us, ‘Call Dave Schoepke—he’s the best drummer in town.’
We took a long shot. Could someone learn our entire set in an hour? Dave showed up already listening, already taking notes in his own shorthand, already locked in. He heard each song once, halfway through because there was no time. That was it.
When the show started, Dave played like he’d been a member of Sister Hazel for years—hitting every cue, locking into the pocket, adapting in real time, and catching all the little nuances only we thought we knew. He kept the whole performance grounded with feel, musicality, and total confidence.
